Games to Watch
Cleveland @ La Cueva 6:30 PM
The obvious one here is Cleveland hosted by the Bears; a match-up with many commonalities. Both teams are reeling from upset loses in their last games; La Cueva to 4A St. Pius and Cleveland to 3A Pojoaque. Both teams feature the best outside hitters in the state in Julia Warren and Cassie House. One could also argue about each having the best setter at 5A in Brandi Torr (Bears) and Jordan Bruere (Storm).
What can’t be argued is the need for both teams to right their respective ships.
Warren is going to need some help up front, and Torr is the key for that to happen. From Pojoaque’s win this weekend, it’s obvious Cleveland has an Achilles heel. Identifying that weakness, getting a good read on the defense and getting other hitters involved is key for a Bear’s win.
After seeing the Storm play last week, I think Cleveland’s biggest problem is their defense (minimizing the service errors doesn’t hurt either). Having the extraordinary front row won’t compensate for an inconsistent defense and sloppy passing. The Storm needs to correct those issues, keep the Bears on their heels, and make La Cueva forget there are hitters other than Warren.
It’s going to be tough environment at La Cueva tonight. Whatever the outcome, it will be a competitive match against two great teams.

Mayfield @ Las Cruces 7:00 PM
Revisiting one of the oldest rivalries in the state and definitely the most heated, both teams are both slowly and steadily improving. The Bulldawgs should have their middle, Sierra Ludington, available which will make the difference in this match. Leupold has been switching between his setters, Velasquez and Abney, with Velasquez getting playing time at Eldorado; it’s anyone’s guess to see who will be in the rotation tonight.
Alyson Lucht, the Mayfield middle, will be the Trojan’s best and consistent weapon. Look for Ludington to match up on Lucht; it should be a good battle at the net.
St. Pius @ Sandia 6:30 PM
A good test for the Sartans to see how they bounce back from the fifth place finish at the VolleyBash.

I forgot to include some players in the story about the Sandia Prep in yesterday’s dig. My first mistake EVER.
Congrats to Olivia Layden, Cedar Yellowmule, and Kathaleen Coriz, all of Bernalillo, who were selected to the All Tourney Team at the Sandia Prep tournament this past weekend.
