Daily Dig – Oct 5
NMSU dominates UNM
As mentioned in yesterday’s preview of the Aggie vs Lobo game, the match would be determined on which UNM team showed up to play; it looks like the inconsistent version made an appearance.
Not sure what’s going on, but Rhodes does need some help, and logically Williamson is the one to step up. She didn’t, and her performance was noted by Lobo head coach Jeff Nelson.
“I don’t like to call kids out, but right now (Williamson) needs a kick in the butt,” said Nelson. “Kelly has to step up.”
On the other side of the net, the Aggies looked pretty good; DeVries collected her eighth double-double with 45 assists and 11 digs. Middle Michelle Kuester was a force at the net with seven kills, and combining for eight blocks.

St. Pius defeat Academy in Barn Burner
St Pius defeats arch-rival Albuquerque Academy, 3-2 in a grueling match. 25-19, 21-25, 28-26, 21-25, 15-13.
These 2 teams have had some memorable matches over the years. The last time they met, it ended pretty much the same with St Pius winning the fifth game 16-14.
Academy had a definate size advantage, especially Kaira Lujan. St Pius had to fall back on the strength of their hitters.
Last year’s 4A Player of the Year Sara Weber dominated with 20 kills. Powerful right side hitter Lauren Roveto added 15 more and Lexi Biondi had 13.
Academy will hope to return the favor when St Pius visits their home gym on October 20th.
