St. Pius overcomes La Cueva
In what can best be described as a hostile environment for La Cueva, the St. Pius Sartans avenged their Metro Tournament championship game loss, beating the Bears in 3-1 (25-13, 27-29, 25-23, 25-17).
Sara Weber lead the Sartans with 17 kills, Lexi Biondi had 13, and Lauren Roveto pitched in 10 kills. In the mix was Jasmine Serna–while I don’t have stats, it’s obvious she did a great job cracking the Bear defense, and getting an exceptional distribution of touches to her hitters.
The St. Pius defense kept the Bears offense under control. Good blocking by middles Eliza Sneddon and Kaitlin Martinez and digs by libero Felicity Jackson were crucial in the win.
Julia Warren collected 26 kills on the night for La Cueva.
The Sartans don’t have time to celebrate just yet; they’ll be playing in the Rio Rancho VolleyBash, beginning this morning.
The next match for La Cueva will be no walk in the park for the Bears. They’ll be hosting Cleveland on Tuesday, September 27th, in what should be a great battle.
UNM vs TCU tonight
Don’t forget the match tonight featuring UNM vs TCU in the annual Jam Johnson night at 7:00 PM. TCU, 13-1, will be a tough match, so the Lobos will need your support.
