Daily Dig – August 18
The 2014 season opens up for some of the southern schools tonight, including Las Cruces, Oñate and Centennial.
The Bulldawgs square off against El Paso Chapin, with eight games under their belt. Sophomore Alyssa Lozoya leads the Husky attack, having racked up 70 kills this season. Las Cruces’ game plan is still a mystery; having employed the 6-2 over the last 2-3 years, senior setter Alyssa Abney is no longer on the team. Their setter Jeri Alaniz is top-notch, so things should run smoothly.
Centennial faces the perennial powerhouse El Paso Coronado and this one should be a shootout. Keep an eye out for Thunderbird Monica Roberts and on the Hawk’s side of the net, senior outsides Addie Pedraza and Lexi Patterson. The Hawks are pretty deep offensively, and have some good reserves including Alexis Maynez and Analisa Jaquez. Coronado has had the chance to develop some team chemistry this season, but I would expect a good fight from the Hawks.
